Nature Scavenger Hunt
Enjoy quality time with your family at our scavenger hunt. This activity will get you out exploring the preserve together plus learning a thing or two about nature! Have fun seeing if you can uncover the nature-themed treasures we have hidden for you to find. Make an afternoon of it and bring a picnic lunch to enjoy before or after the hunt! Advance registration is required. Adults must accompany children.
Sunday, April 8 -1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Age: 5 years and up. There is no charge.
A Planting We Will Go
Join us as we discover what happens to a seed in the spring. We’ll read a story and take a short walk to try and find different seeds in the preserve. Decorate a flower pot and plant your very own seed inside to watch it grow! Advance registration is required. Adults must accompany children. Adults attend free.
Tuesday, April 10 - 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Age: 3 to 5 years. $4 per child.
Meadow Wee Walkers
Join us for a special Wee Walkers at Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve. This is a great opportunity for adults and little ones to meet each other and explore what’s happening in nature as we take an easy-paced hike around the preserve. Advance registration is not required but is helpful for planning purposes. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Thursday, April 26 - 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Age: Up to 5 years. There is no charge.
Citizen Science – NestWatch
Become a scientist for a day with us at Horseshoe Farm. We’ll collect data from our bluebird boxes for NestWatch, investigate the different species of birds that use our nest boxes and see nests and eggs up close! We’ll send you home with all the information you need to start your own NestWatch in your backyard. Advance registration is required. Children must be accompanied by adults. Adults and children must register and pay the program fee.
Saturday, April 28 - 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Age: 5 years and up. $2 per person.
Nature Art: Kite Making
Learn to harness the wind by making your own kite to dance across the sky. We’ll also learn about the weather and clouds. Advance registration is required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Adults and children must register and pay the program fee.
Sunday, April 29 - 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Age: 5 years and up. $4 per person.
Join us for a guided late afternoon walk at Horseshoe Farm. Along the way, our staff will point out interesting natural features of the preserve. Bring a picnic blanket and some snacks to enjoy the evening sky before the program. Come with friends, family members, or meet someone new! Preregistration is required. Children must be accompanied by adults. Children and adults must register.
Saturday, May 19 - 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
All ages. There is no charge.
Nature Art: Paint a Walking Stick
Decorate a walking stick to use on your nature hikes. We'll repurpose some invasive bamboo canes for you to paint and wrap with string. The result will be a personalized walking stick perfect for using to exploring the Meadow Loop Trail. Preregistration is required. Children must be accompanied by adults. Children and adults must register and pay the program fee.
