Upcoming Nature Programs at Durant Nature Preserve

Durant has something for everyone. Hike the trails, fish the lake, or join a nature program to learn and play. To register for programs, visit parks.raleighnc.gov and search keyword “RecLink.” For more information, call the park office at 919-870-2871.

Wee Walkers
Thursday, August 2. 10-11 a.m.
Would you and your toddler like some company for your walks? Join others on an easy paced hike around the Preserve. This is a great opportunity for adults and little ones to meet each other and explore what's happening in nature. Preregistration is not required but is helpful for planning purposes. This program takes place on trails that may not be accessible by strollers.

Storybook Summer: Trees
Tuesday, August 7. 10-11 a.m.
Get excited about stories at the Preserve this summer! Join a nature instructor to read a nature-themed storybook and then head out onto the trail to look for elements of the story within the Preserve. Preregistration is required. Children must be accompanied by adults. Adults attend free. This program takes place on trails that may not be accessible by strollers.
Age: 2-6 years. Course fee $1 per child. Barcode #221479

Wise Walkers
Thursday, August 16. 10-11 a.m.
Enjoy the beauty of nature in the company of friends on this easy paced guided nature walk for adults. A staff member will walk with you to point out interesting natural phenomena along the path. Preregistration is not required but is helpful for planning purposes.

Nature and Sensory Play Day
Friday, August 17. 10AM-12 p.m.
Come check out Durant's Sensory and Nature Play Garden! Self-guided activities to delight the senses and encourage nature play will be provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Walk-in registration on a first come first served basis. If the garden is full when you arrive, staff will be happy to point out other areas of interest to visit until a spot opens up.

Citizen Science—Monarch Larva Monitoring Project
Sunday, August 26. 4-5 p.m.
We'll collect data from our milkweed plants to send to the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project. Scientists will use this data to study and understand monarch butterflies. In addition to monarch larva, we'll see what other caterpillars call the Preserve home. Preregistration is required. Children must be accompanied by adults. Children and adults must register and pay the program fee.
