Mitchell Mill Widening Project

Culvert Replacement

The project widened Mitchell Mill Road to a four-lane median divided road with curb, gutter and sidewalk from Louisburg Road to Forestville Road.

Improvements include:

  • Four-lane median-divided road;
  • Curb and gutters;
  • Sidewalks;
  • Bike lanes;
  • Streetlights on both sides;
  • Turn-lane improvements;
  • Culvert replacement at the intersection of Mitchell Mill Road and Forestville Road;
  • A directional crossover at Neuse Crossing Drive and Longdale Drive;
  • Full access movements at Single Leaf Lane and Caliber Woods Drive; and,
  • New water main installation to connect existing sections currently installed along the corridor.

Pullen Road Extension Project

The project extended Pullen Road from Western Blvd to Centennial Pkwy. The new roadway includes:

  • Bike lanes;
  • Medians,
  • Sidewalk on the east side;
  • A 10-foot multi-use path on the west side;
  • Street trees;
  • A roundabout;
  • Street lights; and,
  • An artificial wetland to help treat stormwater runoff.

The Project was completed in Dec. 2018.

Buck Jones Road Widening Project

The Buck Jones Road Widening project widened a two-lane roadway with no sidewalks, transit infrastructure, or bike lanes resulting in Raleigh Complete Street.

Street improvements include:

  • A center turn lane providing adequate turning traffic storage at eight intersections along the corridor;
  • Two roundabouts were added, at Bashford Road and Farm Gate Road;
  • Installed sidewalks on both sides of the street;
  • Upgraded transit stops that include marked crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, and shelters at selected stops;
  • Curb and gutter;
  • Improved storm drainage system;
  • Bicycle lanes on both sides of the street;
  • Street lights; and,
  • A new 12-foot-by-eight-foot concrete box culvert near Bashford Road.

Hillsborough Street Renewal Project

Hillsborough Street is one of Raleigh’s most iconic streets, home to major universities and businesses, and welcomes thousands of visitors every year. The Hillsborough Street area is also growing, attracting a wide verity of people that are bringing new vitality to the area. The Hillsborough Street Renewal Project enhanced the transformation of the area making Hillsborough Street into a more desirable and safer place to work, shop, dine and live. The renewal of Hillsborough Street also enhances opportunities for cultural events, social gatherings and businesses along the corridor.

Sandy Forks Road Widening Project

Type of Project: Road Widening Project

Completed: Fall 2017

The Sandy Forks Road project replaced more than a mile of failing two-lane roadway that was filled with cracks and potholes. In addition to replacing the existing pavement, the road was widened and a vegetated median, center turn lanes, bike lanes, and sidewalks were added to promote multi-modal access and improve safety.

The City of Raleigh’s Sandy Forks Road Widening Project has earned Greenroads’ silver certification. Sandy Forks Road is just the 45 Greenroads project certified in the world and is currently Greenroads’ top ranked and highest scoring project.

I-40 Bridge Pedestrian Retrofits, Part B

This project installed sidewalk along Trailwood Drive including the bridge over I-40 from north of Lineberry Drive to north of Main Campus Drive.

Breeze Road Improvement Project

The result of a City Street Petition, the Breeze Road project installed curb and gutter, drains and new pavement from Beechridge Road to Hales Road.

The project was Completed in Feb. 2019.

Woodburn Road Sidewalk Project

This project was the result of a City Sidewalk Petition. Residents requested the City to install a sidewalk on Woodburn Road from Smallwood Drive to Wade Avenue.

The project was completed in Feb. 2019

The project installed traffic calming devices along Town and Country Road from lead Mine Road to Millbrook Road.

Crabtree Blvd Sidewalk Project

New sidewalk on the south side of the road between Capital Boulevard and Timber Drive.

Ramblewood Drive Sidewalk Project

Installation of sidewalk along the south side of Ramblewood Drive from Lassiter Mill Road to existing sidewalk at Allister Drive.

Churchill Road Street Improvement Project

Installed curb and gutter between existing improvements on Churchill Road and Canterbury Road.

New sidewalk on the east side of Raleigh Boulevard between Crabtree Boulevard and Yonkers Road and new sidewalk on the west side of Raleigh Boulevard from Yonkers Road to Appliance Court.

The project installed a 5’ wide sidewalk with a 3.5’ foot setback on the south side of Orleans Place from Quail Hollow Drive to the cul-de-sac of Orleans Place.

Leesville Road Widening Project

The project widened Leesville Road from I-540 to New Leesville Road. The project also included the installation of sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides of road and improvements to intersections along the corridor.

Bloodworth Street Sidewalk Project

The City installed new sidewalks to fill in sidewalk gaps on the east side of the street between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Worth Street.

West Millbrook Road Sidewalk Project

Capital Boulevard Sidewalks (South of I-540 interchange)

The City installed sidewalk along both sides of Capital Boulevard from Spring Forrest Road to Old Wake Forrest Road. The project included including high visibility crosswalks and push-buttons crossing signals at signalized intersections.

Sidewalk on the north side of the Clark Avenue between Woodburn Rd and Bellwood Drive was installed connecting the sidewalk network from Cameron Village to the bus stop at Bellwood Drive.

The project included the installation of sidewalk on the north side of the road from Wake forest Road to Coleridge Road, and a box culvert extension at Big Branch.

Brookside Drive Traffic Calming Project

The project included installation of landscaped curb bump-outs, landscaped medians, and new sidewalk and wheelchair ramps at intersections along the corridor. There were also two new catch basins installed to improve storm drainage, one at Holden Street, and the other at Glascock Street

Freedom Drive/ Rhyne Court Petition Project

Completed: March 2015

Freedom Drive

The project widened Freedom Drive from New Bern Avenue to the dead end with curb and gutter and installed sidewalk along one side of the street.

Rhyne Court

The project paved Rhyne Court and added curb and gutter to the street.
