Raleigh Sidewalk Improvement Projects

City-initiated Projects are generally focused on fixing gaps along higher volume streets, such as thoroughfares. Each proposed sidewalk project is evaluated and ranked based on a variety of factors, including street classification, existing demand, special population needs, feasibility, and the proximity of places people want to walk to, like parks, schools, and shopping areas.

Blue Ridge Road Sidewalk Project

The project is to install a sidewalk along the west side of Blue Ridge Road between Pylon Drive and Faber Drive.

Lake Boone Trail Sidewalk Project

We are installing about 350 ft. of sidewalk on the south side of Lake Boone Trail. The new sidewalk will start at Blue Ridge Road and runs to the entrance of Rex Woods Office Center. The project will fill in one of the last remaining gaps on Lake Boone Trail, providing consistent pedestrian access.

We will also upgrade all the sidewalk ramps at the intersection of Blue Ridge Road and Lake Boone Trail. New pavement markings at this intersection will also provide high-visibility crosswalks.

The Leesville Road Safe Routes to Schools (SRTS) project will install new sidewalks and bicycle accommodations along O'Neal Drive, Pride Way, Country Trail, and on the school property.

Project Location

Petition Projects are projects on local residential streets that are handled through the Sidewalk Petition Program. The petition program for a new sidewalk requires signatures from a majority of the property owners along the street that make up the majority of the property frontage. In most cases there are no costs for residential property owners.

Barksdale Drive

Installation of a 6-foot wide sidewalk placed 3.5 feet from the back of curb on the North side of the street from Timber Drive to Mossbank Road, then from Mossbank Road to N. Raleigh Blvd. construct a 6-foot sidewalk directly behind the curb on both sides of the street.

Daisy Street

Installation of a 5-foot wide sidewalk placed 2.5 feet from the back of curb on the west side of the street from Hillsborough Street to Clark Avenue. Adjustments to the sidewalk width and setback may be included in the final design to avoid major impacts in certain areas as needed and determined by our engineering staff.

Featherstone Drive Sidewalk Project

The Featherstone Drive Sidewalk project is the product of a successful sidewalk petition the City received in the Summer of 2018.

Featherstone Drive will have a new sidewalk installed on the north side of the street from Six Forks Road to Mourning Dove Road.

Fiesta Way Sidewalk Project

The Fiesta Way Sidewalk Project is the product of a successful sidewalk petition that the City received in the Summer of 2018.

The project will install a sidewalk on Fiesta Way from Fall of the Neuse Road to the existing sidewalk on Fiesta Way.

Inglewood Drive Sidewalk Project

The Inglewood Drive Sidewalk Project was initiated as a City of Raleigh Sidewalk Petition.

With this project we will install a 5-foot wide sidewalk set back 3.5 feet from the back of the curb from Yadkin Drive to Manchester Drive.

There may be adjustments to the sidewalk to avoid major impacts in certain areas as needed and determined by our engineering staff.

There may be adjustments to the sidewalk to avoid major impacts in certain areas as needed and determined by our engineering staff.

Valley Drive Sidewalk Project

The Valley Drive Sidewalk Project was the product of two successful City of Raleigh Sidewalk Petitions. One was received in the summer of 2018 and the other was received in the winter of 2019. The City has decided to complete the two petitions as one project.

The project will install a sidewalk along the east side of the street between Sawmill Road and Lynn Road.

There may be adjustments to the sidewalk to avoid major impacts in certain areas as needed and determined by our engineering staff.

The Whittier Drive Sidewalk Project is the product of a successful Sidewalk Petition that the City received in the Fall of 2018.

The project will install a sidewalk along the east side of the street between Killington Drive and Optimist Park pool entrance.

Yadkin Drive Part C

Installation of a variable width sidewalk with a variable width setback from the curb on the southeast side of Yadkin Drive from Alleghany Drive to Staley Court transitioning to a 6-foot wide sidewalk on a 3.5-foot setback from the curb on the southeast side from Staley Court to Currituck Drive.
The variable sidewalk width and setback from Alleghany Drive to Staley Court are needed to allow a match and connection to the existing sidewalk across the bridge over Crabtree Creek.
