The design plans are complete. We are scheduled to advertise the project for construction bids in mid-October.

Before we begin our work along the corridor, private utility companies need to relocate some of their services in the area. This work is scheduled to take place in Late October.

Next Step:

The City is scheduled to start construction in January 2020. Before we start our work, we will hold a pre-construction meeting.

Summary

This project will widen and rehabilitate Tryon Road between Lake Wheeler Road and Par Drive, connecting with the previously-widened sections.

The improved corridor will feature a four-lane, divided curb and gutter roadway with:

  • Bike lanes;
  • Turn lanes;
  • Sidewalks;
  • Landscaping;
  • Storm drainage;
  • Street lighting;
  • A golf cart crossing signal (HAWK); and,
  • An Improved traffic signal at Lake Wheeler Road.

History

This section of Tryon Road is the last remaining section planned for widening. The City of Raleigh previously widened the section of Tryon Road to the west of this project and recently NCDOT replaced the bridge at the eastern end of the project and realigned the roadway through the Renaissance Park area.
