Counselor in Training

Counselor In Training

Participants will receive information, training and experiences to prepare them for positions as junior counselors and counselors in various youth-serving organizations. Team-building, role-playing, and hands-on application will highlight a week of fun and personal growth. A higher level of maturity is a must for participants.

Those who successfully complete the week's camp activities will be required to volunteer with one of Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department's summer camps for one additional week (40 hours) to successfully complete the program.

New in 2018 - Teens will need to apply by Feb. 28 to be selected for this program. For more information on the application process please call the Teen Program at 919-996-2139.

Teen X-Treme Summer Camp

Teen X-treme is a high quality summer camp program specifically designed for teens ages 12 to 14. This program leads teens through a broad curriculum of socially interactive experiences that includes arts and craft, field trips, indoor/outdoor recreational games, character & leadership, and other fun activities. Field trips will include two offsite trips and one pool trip. Participants should bring a lunch and two snacks daily. Peach Road Community Center and Eastgate Park will have a strong concentration of outdoor activities.

Program Hours

All sites operate from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, except July 4.

Program Locations

This camp is offered at Abbotts Creek, Biltmore Hills, Eastgate, Marsh Creek, Peach Road and Saint Monica Teen Center.

All Access Sports

This is your all access pass to the sports management industry with behind the scenes tours of various sports complexes around the area along with guest speakers. Past tours have included college facilities, Lowe's Motor Speedway, the PNC Arena, and Five County Stadium to name a few. There will also be friendly sports competitions between campers.

Age: 12-14

Cost: $175 Resident, $190 Non-resident

June 16-20

Program Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Location: Lions Park

Campus Cruisin'

A week-long career and self-exploration program designed to assist students in gaining a greater awareness of institutions of higher education in North Carolina. Personal interest surveys, enhancing your resume, and campus tours to many of North Carolina's private and public campuses, including technical schools, are coupled with new friendships and a college atmosphere. This is a great chance for students to find a school that will prepare them for their future career!

Age: 14-17

Cost: $175 Resident, $190 Non-resident

Program Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Dance it Out!

Participants in this camp will explore different forms of dance that include; stepping, jazz, hip hop and contemporary. Campers will take field trips to dance studios and learn dance routines and see dance demonstrations. Participants will also explore rhythm by learning the elements of percussion. At the end of the week campers will perform what they have learned for their family and friends.

Teen Corps

Teen Corps

Attention teens! Need to fill some community service requirements for high school? Teen Corps will provide an opportunity to serve the community while you have fun and develop as a leader. The beginning of the week will focus on team building and leadership development to prepare for the service ahead. Service opportunities will be both fun and challenging. There will be a special reward at the end of the week to celebrate the experience.

June 18-22

Program Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Teen X-Scape

Teen X-Scape provides a daily offsite field trip along with a structured recreation program designed for teens while promoting social interaction. Participants will engage in recreational games, teambuilding, arts & crafts and other fun activities in both indoor and outdoor settings. Computer time will be offered in addition to the other activities.

Age: 12-15

Cost: $125 Resident, $140 Non-resident

August 13-17

Program Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Location: Saint Monica Teen Center
