Current Activity

The project is at the end of the design process, and bidding will be opened to contractors in the Spring. Construction is expected to begin Summer 2018.

The planned improvements to Kiwanis Park are the latest phase in the parks revitalization. The community center will be renovated to accommodate recreation staff and increased programs. The existing shelter, comfort station, playground, and signage will be replaced with new structures that meet current design, safety, and access standards. Input from the community will be gathered by the consultant team selected to lead the project through design and construction administration.

Kiwanis Park, located at 2525 Noble Road, was deeded in 1955 and constructed shortly thereafter. The 2,400 square foot neighborhood center houses a meeting room, warming kitchen, restrooms, offices, and storage. Other park amenities include a small playground, two regulation basketball courts, a comfort station/shelter combination, baseball field, and two multi-purpose fields. The total park site is 29.5 acres and includes access to the Crabtree Greenway. A portion of the park lies in the floodplain of Crabtree Creek, and is bounded by Joyner Elementary School and a mix of residential housing types.
