Fire Recruitment Process
Fire Recruitment is a seven step process from application to offer of employment. Recruitment is only open during certain periods of time. Applications are accepted only during open recruitment periods.
The Raleigh Fire Department is no longer accepting applications. The application process is Closed.

Step 1: Apply online at City of Raleigh website. Applications Process is closed
On July 1, 2014, the City of Raleigh implemented a new on-line application process. Applications are no longer accepted in person and must be completed online.
All applicants must go to the City of Raleigh website and create a governmentjobs.com account. If you already have a GovernmentJobs.com account, sign in with your username and password, select the job title and then apply. All sections of the application must be completed. If a question does not apply to you, indicate with NA. Questions marked with an asterisk (*) are required.

Step 2: OPTIONAL Physical Agility and Aptitude exam practice:
To prepare for the process, we recommend attending an orientation to the Aptitude Test and Physical Agility Test. The Aptitude Test and Agility Test orientation sessions will be held at the Keeter Training Center (105 Keeter Center dr. Raleigh). Arrive early for the Aptitude Test practice session. Step 3: Candidate Written Aptitude Test:
Successful applicants will sit for a Written Aptitude Test.
Step 4: Physical Agility Test
Candidates who successfully pass the written aptitude test will sign up and attend the Candidate Physical Agility Test at the Keeter Training Center. Applicants should arrive at least 15 minutes before their registered time.
Step 5: Background and Reference Checks
Candidates who successfully complete the Aptitude Test and PAT may undergo background and reference checks including criminal and civil background, social security number verification, personal and professional reference, and driving records for up to 7 years, depending on the state.
If you lived outside of North Carolina anytime during the past 7 years, you will be required to provide a certified copy of your Motor Vehicle Report from every state where you lived and had a driver's license. Out-of-state driving records are your responsibility to provide.
North Carolina driving records will be provided by the City of Raleigh.
All military personnel must provide a copy of their DD214.
Step 6: Oral Interview
Applicants will be notified if they are selected for an interview by phone and/or mail.
Candidates who successfully complete the Aptitude Test and PAT may be invited for an oral interview at the Keeter Training Center.
Step 7: Offer of Employment
Offers of employment will be made to the final candidates. Employment is contingent on a physical examination, which is based on the physical requirements of the position, a controlled substance test and a psychological evaluation.
