We are now accepting applications for the Spring 2019 Police Academy Class. ALL applications for the Spring Academy MUST be submitted by 5 p.m. (EST) on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019.

The City of Raleigh requires all City applicants to create a NEOGOV account to make an application. If you already have a NEOGOV account, you can log into the account and fill out an application to the City of Raleigh position you seek.
After you have completed the NEOGOV application and submitted your full application packet, your application packet will be reviewed by the Recruiting Unit. If approved, you will be contacted by a recruiter who will schedule you for the first rounds of testing. These tests will include the polygraph, reading comprehension test and physical fitness test. The following standards apply to all candidates for Police Officer:
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of graduation from the Raleigh Police Academy
- No maximum age restriction
- High School graduate or equivalent. College or Military Preferred
- United States Citizen or Naturalized Citizen
- Good character and moral background
- Licensed driver or able to obtain a valid NC Driver’s License
- 20/20 vision (corrected); applicant cannot be colorblind

The City of Raleigh seeks police officers with general law enforcement certification who are currently working in a law enforcement agency in North Carolina or are certified out-of-state law enforcement officer with two years of experience. Former law enforcement officers who have a break in service of less than 12 months long can also apply.
Eligible lateral entry officers will attend a 13-week academy rather than the 28-week full-length academy class for new recruits.
Equivalent Service is the amount of time credited and credentialed to an applicant by the Administrative Services Division Commander. The service based on prior comparable years of law enforcement and training.
