We may also be able to provide a recycling or garbage truck for collection and/or display. Want to educate attendees about recycling? Borrow our "teaching trash" kit for a hands-on display of recyclable and non-recyclable items.

Recycling and Composting Containers Available

ClearStream containers make it easy to see where recyclables go!

The City has 30 ClearStream Recycling Containers for use at events. These containers are easy to transport and include stands, clearly labeled lids and transparent bags that make it easy to monitor what is being recycled.

For small events, the City has a limited number of lids labeled for composting and special bags that are compostable. You can use these to collect the food waste and paper products such as napkins and plates and put them in your back yard compost bin. Larger events should contract with a organic waste hauler such as Brooks Composting, CompostNow, Food FWD or SMART Recycling.

Green Planning For Special Events

Consider these questions in planning for a low-waste event:

  • What type of event is it?
  • What types of food and beverages will be available? What will they be served in/on?
  • How many vendors will there be?
  • What materials can be recycled or composted?
  • How many event visitors are expected?
  • Do you have sufficient garbage cans?
  • Who will monitor and collect the materials?
  • Do you have a recycling container paired with every garbage can?
  • Are waste containers clearly labeled?
  • How are you directing visitors to the correct containers?

Let folks know from the very first advertising (flyer, ad, web, etc.) that recycling will be available and to look for it! During the event use signage and loudspeakers to remind visitors to recycle.
