The Fire Academy’s primary goal is to ensure each recruit is prepared to safely perform the duties of a firefighter assigned to a crew. Recruits graduate with all state certifications required in North Carolina. The minimum certifications include N.C. EMT, N.C. Firefighter I and II, and N.C. HazMat Level 1.
During the academy, recruits must successfully complete all EMT and firefighting skills while maintaining a minimum grade average of 70 percent. After graduation, each firefighter is assigned to one of the City’s 28 fire stations.
